I have been loving every bit of the full-moon phase of my collecting journey. But, when I heard about this deck – I knew I had to have it in my Tarot collection. We are talking about the Alkebu-lan Tarot and it is one to most definitely check out if you are in the market for a new deck.
What I most appreciate about this deck is the inclusion of all aspects of the African diaspora. The vibrant colors, the great cardstock, and the borderless cards are a bonus. There are some decks you have to work your way to daily use, not this one. I was able to get right to working with it in client readings upon receiving it.
The Alkebu-lan Tarot and its 136 page guidebook will be printed in The Netherlands. The size of the deck is 80 mm x 140 mm or 3.15″ x 5.51″. There are 22 Major Arcana cards, with 2 extra cards in the Suit of Axes and 1 extra card in the Major Arcana. Watch the video to see these beautiful and evocative cards!

This is a mass market deck that can be purchased through large online retailers. If you’re in the market for a new deck, check this one out, it may be what you need to expand your Tarot reading repertoire.
One of the things I truly appreciate about this deck is the guidebook – it is chockfull of wonderful details to help the new Tarot reader, while supporting the seasoned folk. I also really enjoy the artwork and find it evocative, as many of the depictions shows people in action. There are love and money keywords on the cards, as well as “yes” and “no” indicators in the top corners. The gold gilding is pretty and gives the deck a luxe look. I have used this deck in a handful of readings and find the messages are spot on. The Tarot size is a bit larger than standard, but not difficult at all to handle.

I’ve started a new ongoing series where I revisit some of my old published and unpublished unboxings and give my honest follow up impression of a deck.
If there’s an unboxing you’d like me to revisit, let me know in the comment section below!
In this video, I discuss Tarot of the Sweet Twilight. I unboxed this deck on January 10, 2018. I recorded today’s discussion on November 30, 2021 – so quite a bit of time has passed since my purchase.
