Bittersweet Updates | Choosing Your Next Deck, Curating Your Collection Course

There comes a time when things need to shift and change in order to move forward with ease and for me, that time has come. I am embracing the Death card period and leaning into saying goodbye to Choosing Your Next Deck, Curating Your Collection, at least in its current form. No worries – you can now access much of the content on my YouTube channel playlist and for a small fee, you can receive the worksheets and PDF Tarot spreads in my Ko-fi Shop.

More courses, exclusive videos, and workshops will be added to to the shop – be sure to follow to hear all about what’s coming up!

There are additional videos that are available to those who pay for the spreads and worksheets that are not fully accessible on the YouTube channel playlist.

I will still host periodic live streams discussing the various topics that were covered in the course – so stay tuned! We will still keep the discussion of curating our collections and practicing mindfulness in procuring new decks.

There will still be ways to LEARN and GROW in TAROT with me, by joining me over on Ko-fi, where my Poised to Leap Coaching/Mentorship resides, as well as upcoming courses and workshops for you to participate (whether or not you are a Poised to Leap member).

WHY THE CHANGE?

The time has come for me to close down the Abundant Life Tarot Academy on my website and move much of the learning/teaching environment over to Ko-fi. With this change, I will be closing the free Choosing Your Next Deck, Curating Your Collection course. This course was born out of my 2020 Depth year experience and I still plan to make sure the content remains available for those who wish to watch it.

Thanks to all those who took and completed the free course, participated in the lives and Zoom calls, and were so supportive of the message I was conveying to the tarot-collecting community.

My deck wishlist has grown to a whopping 24! I used to only manage to keep about 2 to 3 decks on the wishlist when I was in my waxing phase of my collecting. Now that I am not buying as many decks, the wishlist has grown, yet I still aim to be quite discerning on what I ultimately add to the collection.

Moon Phases of Deck Collecting | Analyzing my Collection Trends

I began tracking my deck purchases in 2017 and I now have almost six years of data to review my collecting habits. I will share with you how much I’ve spent year over year on my decks. What I’ve come to realize about myself is I have phases in collecting, similar to what we see in moon phases.

I recorded this video on September 16, 2022. At the time of publishing this video, I calculated my 2022 deck spending at $471.09. I’ve preordered a deck and backed another. During the holiday season, I got a few decks during a Black Friday sale and in December gifted myself a Tarot deck from Amazon. I have amazing decks on my wishlist, but I don’t feel a strong urge to get them. It is my goal to cut the deck spending by half in 2023.

I have spent a total of $5,346.56 on my deck collection from 2016 to 2022. As you can see, I plan to continue tracking my spending in 2023.

To help me forecast my anticipated spending for 2023, I have a column dedicated to “unlikely,” “likely,” and “very likely,” with the last being the ones I will most likely purchase next year. I can filter down to “very likely” and see what the costs of those decks, including shipping, and budget accordingly. The total amount forecasted to spend for my “Very Likely” decks is $288.93.

Of course I could end up adding or removing decks from the wishlist, but, this gives me a general idea of what I plan to spend for my hobby of deck collecting.

I experienced a low buy depth year in 2020 and it carried over into 2021. For my depth year, I pledged to myself to refrain from buying new decks, crystals, and books. It has turned into quite a life changing time for me! I have had a chance to reflect on my deck collection and collecting habits and I’ve learned a lot about who I am as a cartomancer and as a collector.

We’ll take a look at what’s on my shelves as I discuss my depth year musings, 2022 reflections on my collection, and what’s next for me in deck collecting.
